Hello and welcome to the Village of Franklinville’s website. My name is Judy Harrington and I am the Mayor of our Village. Franklinville is a quaint little village about fifty miles south of Buffalo and twenty-two miles north of Olean, New York. It has been said we are a bedroom community because many of our residents choose to live in a rural setting yet commute to Buffalo or Olean for work. We have just fewer than two thousand residents in the Village and just fewer than four thousand in the Town of Franklinville. We are located on Rt. 16 and are just a few miles from Ellicottville’s ski slopes. Yes, we have snow in the winter. Some years we have a lot of snow, and we have some of the most beautiful fall foliage you could ever hope to see. The Village of Franklinville has many beautiful trees. We have been a Tree City USA village for twenty years. We have a very active Tree Commission that meets monthly and tries to take care of the trees in the community. We also have zoning in the Village. Our members of the Zoning Board of Appeals are committed to doing the best job possible. Franklinville has had a Planning Board in the past. At this time, the Village Board is contemplating resurrecting this important Board. Our central business district is located on a part of Rt. 16 that is on the National Historic Register. We are quite proud of this and our Facelift Commission is advising us on how to do things in that district that will enhance the historic flavor of it. We have a unique house on Pine Street, which is just around the corner from Historic Park Square, called the Miner’s Cabin. This building is owned by the Ischua Valley Historical Society and is open for tours during certain times of the year and can be open for tours by appointment. We also have a public library in this Historic District called the Blount Library. Not only is the library functional in offering what you would normally expect to see in a library, but it is beautiful architecturally. Franklinville also has a local newspaper, an art gallery and many little businesses where you will find antiques and hand crafted items for sale. We have a grocery store, a variety store, many restaurants, gas stations, and numerous churches. We have several doctors, a dentist, massage therapist and a pharmacy all in the village.
